A Brief Overview of Laravel

Welcome to the post on A Brief Overview of Laravel. Here you will learn the basic concepts and features of Laravel.

Basically, Laravel is a Backend PHP Framework for developing web apps. In fact, you can build a complete CMS (Content Management System) using Laravel. Since the Laravel is a PHP framework, therefore you need to know PHP and the concepts of object-oriented programming as well. With good knowledge of PHP, learning Laravel is easy. Moreover, it has so many built-in features that make the development faster and more productive.

Features of Laravel

  • Laravel is an open-source framework
  • As the Laravel has built-in features, you don’t need to develop every functionality from scratch. This is possible with the help of Laravel’s Modular Packaging System using dependency management.
  • Laravel is built using security considerations. Therefore, web apps built using Laravel are comparatively more secure.
  • You can create responsive web apps easily.
  • It is a stable framework.
  • Laravel has an object-relational mapping system known as Eloquent. It allows you to work with database tables as objects. Hence, you can easily access and manipulate data.
  • It has a Command-Line Interface (CLI) also.
  • The use of the MVC design pattern in Laravel ensures productivity.
  • Laravel has many tools to help development and supports automated testing.

Architecture of Laravel

Laravel follows the Model-View-Controller (MVC) design pattern. Hence, you need to first understand about MVC architecture. As the name suggests, the MVC pattern has three significant components – The Model, View, and the Controller.

The Model basically holds the data. It represents the objects. You can define classes in the Model that represent entities along with the associated methods for setting and getting the values or properties.

The View represents the user interface and provides a visualization of data.

The Controller communicates with both the Model and the View. while keeping them separate. As the data is changed in the Model, the Controller updates the View.

To sum up, use of MVC architecture in Laravel makes the code files more orhanized. As a result, it is easier for the developers to define responsibilies and improve productivity and performance.
